Job Description

The Social Emotional Learning Coordinator is responsible for social emotional programs; behavioral interventions and supports, including equity, social and emotional learning services. The SEL Coordinator supports the effective implementation of BGCCI social and emotional learning vision. Helps develop, adapt, and execute age appropriate SEL initiatives within Clubs and support club staff in promoting members’ social and emotional development through curriculum and assessment. Working in cooperation with club staff, parents, and community partners, to coordinate internal and external resources to meet the needs of members and contribute to a positive club climate.

Essential Job Functions


• Ensure successful implementation of Social Emotional Learning Competencies across 8 Club sites in the Des Moines area.
• Observe & assess daily activities and club behavior in a traditional Club environment.
• Lead staff development & identify training opportunities for staff at all levels of the organization to support effective implementation of social-emotional learning and trauma-informed behavior across the organization.
• Oversee social work practicum student/intern.
• Evaluate & provide professional guidance on BGCCI’s harassment/bullying policies & practices.
• Consult with Club staff, administrators, families, & relevant school personnel regarding the social and emotional needs of students.
• Collect and analyze data to make decisions and adjustments to SEL curriculum and initiatives.
• Provide resources for members/families in the community.
• The SEL Coordinator will be an active member of the local Club staff team and serve as a solution-oriented and collaborative leader for members as needed.
• The person in this position will create and utilize social emotional programming within multiple Club locations. This will include training other Club staff to effectively run SEL programming as well.
• Utilize a social & emotional lens to promote impactful individual and group programming, consultation, crisis interventions, grief support, and referral work for members as needed.
• Knowledge of crisis intervention, conflict resolution, and risk assessment with ability to respond to members trauma emergencies at Club.
• Assists in coordinating the positive behavioral interventions and supports program.
• Develops and maintains working relationships with the school & community agencies.
• Stays up to date on SEL practices & continuing education.

Education

• Master’s Degree required in Social Work (with LMSW licensure or ability to obtain).
• Bachelor’s Degree required in Mental Health, Social Work, Human Development, Family Studies, Psychology, or a related field.

Experience

• Preferred knowledge/ experience with Boys & Girls Clubs (or similar youth-serving organization)
• Minimum of 2 years work experience in behavior intervention, youth development, and/or small group facilitation, preferred.
• Master’s Degree required in Social Work (with LMSW licensure or ability to obtain).
• Bachelor’s Degree required in Mental Health, Social Work, Human Development, Family Studies, Psychology, or a related field.
• Experience in providing leadership & overall problem-solving including discipline for members.
• Assists in developing, leading and managing the social & emotional programs for members.
• Effective interpersonal skills (including oral and written communication).
• Knowledge of SEL competencies and experience in SEL implementation.
• Broad knowledge regarding child development, learning and family system.
• Knowledge of the educational, social & behavioral needs of students, adults, & the community.
• Knowledge of evidence-based approaches to social and emotional learning.
• Ability to communicate effectively with individuals and groups, both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with teachers, administrators and community agencies.
• Knowledge of current research and best practices in SEL and school climate.
• Experience designing and delivering professional development.
• Ability to lead, plan, organize, and work collaboratively with various teams.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to create positive relationships.
• Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office programs, including PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
• Must have valid state license and reliable transportation.
