Job Title: Human Resources Director

Reports To: Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

Job Summary: The Human Resource Director is responsible for shaping and maintaining our company culture while fostering positive employee relations. You will lead a team dedicated to creating an inclusive, supportive, and engaging work environment where employees can thrive. Your responsibilities will encompass daily operations and long term strategic planning, policy development, employee advocacy, and conflict resolution. This position will collaborate with multiple management levels as well as employees at all levels of UCS Healthcare.

Operates in alignment with UCS Healthcare core values. Is a team player, provides patient centered care and strives to provide the highest level of care. Coach and mentor team members; receive and provide feedback in a constructive way that builds confidence within the team; address performance issues as needed in a timely manner. Follow all Federal, State of Iowa, and agency policies and laws, including those pertaining to patient confidentiality, including HIPAA/ 42CFR part 2 and CARF requirements.

Essential Functions:

Employee Relations 20%:


Develop and implement strategies to promote positive employee relations.

Serve as a trusted advisor and point of contact for employees regarding workplace issues, conflicts, and grievances.

Conduct investigations into complaints of discrimination, harassment, or other workplace misconduct, ensuring fair and impartial resolution.

Provide coaching and guidance to managers on employee relations matters.



Culture Development 15%:


Champion our company values and cultivate a positive organizational culture.

Lead initiatives to enhance employee engagement, satisfaction, and retention.

Develop programs and events to celebrate achievements, foster camaraderie, and promote a sense of belonging.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate cultural initiatives into business strategies and drive change.



Data Analysis and Reporting 15%:


Compile and analyze HR metrics to assess the effectiveness of HR programs and initiatives.

Generate reports for senior leadership on key HR metrics, trends, and insights.

Use data to inform decision-making and drive continuous improvement in HR practices.



Policy Development and Compliance 10%:


Develop, revise, and communicate HR policies and procedures in compliance with legal requirements and industry best practices.

Ensure consistent application and enforcement of policies across the organization.

Stay abreast of changes in employment law and regulations, advising leadership on potential impacts and ensuring compliance.



Performance Management 10%:


Oversee performance management processes, including goal setting, performance reviews, and feedback mechanisms.

Provide guidance to managers on performance improvement plans and disciplinary actions when necessary.

Implement strategies to recognize and reward high performers and address underperformance effectively.



Talent Acquisition and Onboarding 10%:


Collaborate with hiring managers to develop recruitment strategies and ensure a diverse candidate pool.

Oversee the recruitment process, including job postings, candidate screening, interviewing, and selection.

Lead onboarding initiatives to ensure new employees are welcomed, informed, and set up for success.

Identify and execute plans to attract a strong workforce.



Training and Development 10%:


Identify training needs and develop programs to enhance employee skills and competencies.

Facilitate training sessions on topics such as diversity and inclusion, leadership development, and conflict resolution.

Support career development initiatives and succession planning efforts.



Employee Wellness and Benefits 10%:


Partner with benefits providers to offer competitive and comprehensive employee benefit packages.

Promote employee wellness programs and initiatives to support physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

Survey and Monitor employee satisfaction with benefits offerings and recommend adjustments as needed.



Minimum Required Education, Skills Experience:


Minimum of three years of experience as a Human Resource Manager or Director

Bachelor's degree required.

Current Society of Human Resource Management Certification (CP or SCP) or Human Resource Standards Institute HCRI Certification.

Adept using technology including but not limited to MS office software suite, internet, human resource management and reporting software.

Adept at using video platforms.

Ability to prioritize changing situations and issues.

Excellent organizational and oral/written communication skills are a must.

Excellent presentation and training skills.

Experience with working with compensation, employee relations, benefits administration, leave administration, compliance talent acquisition, and performance management.



Preferred Education, Skills Experience:


Preferred experience in a non-profit and/or clinic setting.

Ability to work independently, exercise discretion and sound judgment.

Ability to make decisions on matters/situations that may affect the entire agency.



Supervisory Responsibility: See organizational chart.

Physical Requirements:


Communicating with others to exchange information.

Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.

Light work that includes moving objects up to 20 pounds.

Minimal travel required, less than 5%.

A valid driver's license is required (an Iowa driver's license is required within 30 days of hire) and liability insurance or an equivalent means of reliable personal transportation and coverage as travel within the state of Iowa may be necessary.
