Locals love the Downtown Farmers’ Market every Saturday, May through October, in Downtown Des Moines Historic Court District. It's the go-to Des Moines event where urban-meets-rural, bringing hundreds of local Iowa farmers, producers, artisans and makers together with thousands of marketgoers each week. The Adel Sweet Corn Festival is another favorite food festival, giving off a home-town feel, where visitors enjoy free and tasty farm fresh sweet corn (butter, anyone?). The Harvest Gathering in Earlham and Altoona’s Farm to Table Dinner are unique, only-in-Iowa experiences mixing fresh and seasonal eats with a Main Street community vibe beneath the glow of the setting sun.

Cultural Events in Greater Des Moines

Explore global tastes and entertainment and celebrate communities at cultural festivals in DSM — including World Food & Music Festival, the Latino Heritage Festival and CelebrAsian — each taking place in Downtown Des Moines. Tulip Time, held annually in May, descends on the Pella community along with rich Dutch traditions and celebrations including the famed cleaning of the streets, Dutch dress and tulips (lots and lots of tulips!).
