Job Description

Palmer Group has partnered with our client in their search for a Facilities Project Engineer. This senior-level position offers the opportunity to lead critical facility projects that directly impact the community. You’ll manage capital improvement initiatives, oversee maintenance and rehabilitation of city-owned buildings, and ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. This role combines technical expertise with leadership and project management, working closely with contractors, consultants, and internal teams to maintain and improve essential public facilities.

What you will do:

- Plan, manage, and deliver facility construction and maintenance projects from concept through completion
- Oversee design, bidding, and construction phases, ensuring compliance with specifications, safety standards, and budget requirements
- Coordinate with contractors, consultants, and internal stakeholders to resolve issues and maintain project timelines
- Conduct site visits to monitor progress, quality, and adherence to standards
- Manage long-term maintenance planning and asset management for approximately 50 facilities
- Prepare and review project documentation, cost estimates, and reports
- Support energy efficiency initiatives and sustainability goals in facility projects
- Serve as a primary point of contact for project stakeholders and provide updates as needed

What you need to be successful:

- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
- 5+ years of experience in construction and maintenance project management, including design, bidding, and construction oversight
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Iowa, or ability to obtain within 12 months (EIT considered if close to licensure)
- Strong ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize across a portfolio of facilities
- Skilled in contractor oversight and consultant coordination for design and project execution
- Excellent communication and organizational skills; able to work effectively with diverse stakeholders
