Job Description
The Director of Gift Planning & Advisor Relations plays a vital role in the achievement of overall charitable giving goals. This position is responsible for building on the Community Foundation’s working relationships with professional advisors (such as financial, tax and estate planners) and relationship development with prospective fund holders, as well as managing stewardship of an assigned portfolio of current fund holders. Key strategies of the position include: overall deepening of professional advisor and donor relationships, including Charitable Investment Partners, proactively cultivating relationships with prospective fund holders and developing relationships with assigned individual and family fund holders to maximize the donor experience with the Community Foundation, assisting fund holders to achieve their charitable giving goals.

Essential Job Functions
BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT
Leads pipeline development and execution of comprehensive plan to engage new fund holders and professional advisors with targeted goals, methods, quantifiable outcomes and timelines.
Professional Advisor Engagement
• Collaborates with Sr. Director of Gift Planning and Advisor Relations and Marketing Team to achieve marketing, communication and outreach goals related to professional advisor engagement.
• Leads group presentations and events with professional advisors.
• Collaborates with Vice President of Affiliates to engage professional advisors throughout our Affiliate Network.
• Maintains accurate records of professional advisor engagement in internal database system.
• Supports the Charitable Investment Partners (CIP) program, including prospecting and stewardship of current partners in Greater Des Moines and throughout the Affiliate Network.
• Represents the Community Foundation at a variety of community events and professional associations aimed at heightening awareness of and engagement with the Community Foundation.
Prospective Fund Holder Relationship Development
• In collaboration with Charitable Giving Team, identifies and executes strategies and tactics for pipeline development of new fund holders.
• Identifies and plan events and outreach to engage prospective fund holders.
• Tracks prospective gifts and donor engagement activities through internal database system.
FUND HOLDER ENGAGEMENT
• Proactively manages portfolio of assigned existing fund holders focusing on maintaining and deepening relationships to grow charitable giving and maximize the donor experience with the Community Foundation.
• Assists fund holders in achieving their charitable giving goals, including facilitating contributions of cash, stock, and other assets to Community Foundation funds, as well as providing grantmaking support. Works closely with the Community Impact and Finance Teams to coordinate charitable giving solutions for fund holders.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
• Executes strategies and tactics to achieve assigned charitable giving goals.
• Facilitates complex gift transactions in collaboration with the Chief Charitable Giving Officer.
• Leads presentations to investment committees of Agency fund holders.
• Ensures that the Community Foundation meets the highest standards of prompt response and accurate information to assist advisors and donors.
• Participates in special projects assigned to enhance organizational goals.
Education
A bachelor’s degree and a minimum of five years of experience in financial or investment services, client services, gift planning, fundraising or closely related professional experience preferred.
Other Formal Training
Chartered Advisor of Philanthropy (CAP®) certification preferred.
Experience
Prior knowledge of and experience with prospective donor engagement and charitable gift planning preferred. Proven ability to interact comfortably with a broad spectrum of professional advisors, donors and community leaders is required. Strong knowledge of the full range of giving vehicles and tax laws related to charitable giving and experience in major gift programs and complex gift acceptance preferred. Must be able to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously and work both independently and in a team environment.
