Job Description

The UCS Healthcare Iowa National Guard (IANG) SBIRT Counselor provides the Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) program to the Iowa National Guard (IANG). They perform yearly screenings, brief interventions, brief treatment, and referrals to services as deemed appropriate. The SBIRT Program is an integrated health care service provided free of charge to IANG troops and is unique to the state of Iowa. The services this program provides extends to the Air National Guard, other state National Guard units, the reserves, veterans, and active-duty units as they reach out.

As part of UCS Healthcare Organization, team members will follow all laws and regulations, including those at the Federal, State, and Local level. They will also adhere to all UCS policies and procedures, including patient confidentiality, HIPAA/ 42CFR part 2, and all CARF requirements. Essential Job Functions

Conducting one on one sessions with troops with substance use disorder (SUD) related issues (Individual intervention)
Screen Troops with identified Substance Use Disorder (SUD) related issues for the appropriate level of intervention as requested by IANG
Complete program enrollment and completion documentation
Conduct outreach to outlying armories within the state as requested by IANG
Consult with IANG units, behavioral health services, case managers, and other organizations on cases that involve substances and be able to articulate best practices for intervention
Travel throughout the state of Iowa to various National Guard Armories and locations (No Overnights)
Attend required meetings and workgroups as assigned by UCS and or the IANG
Attend drill weekends (Saturday and Sunday) with the IANG for SBIRT screening of troops. (Once a month)
Facilitating 7 Resident Brief Treatment Two Day Sessions for troops in the IANG (Group intervention)
Collaborate treatment functions with outside agencies and refer SMs to a higher level of care as needed
Attend approved conferences and meetings to secure and maintain credentials
Additional duties as assigned
Regular attendance is required
Other Functions: (15%)

Coordinate delivery of treatment modalities
Collaborate treatment functions with outside agencies
Apprise supervisor of problems encountered in caseloads
Implement evidenced-based curriculums identified as appropriate by management
Interpret referral paperwork to determine an appropriate level of care
Engage in a fast pace, problem-solving workflow
Keep up-to-date clinical records for interactions as needed

Education

Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC)
Occasional travel throughout the state of Iowa to various national guard barracks and locations is required (5% of the time)
Ability to use de-escalation skills in resolving conflict when necessary
Preferred Knowledge, Education, Experience, Skills, and Abilities:

2 years experience in a related field such as Behavioral Health
Associate Degree or equivalent experience
