Job Description
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Iowa’s mission is to impact youth by empowering them to discover and achieve their goals through meaningful mentoring relationships. This position will be responsible for helping to coordinate and facilitate two programs – Future Pathways and Workplace Mentoring, with the primary emphasis being on Future Pathways. The purpose of the Future Pathways Program is to provide developmental support for young adults, ages 18-25, in the areas of financial wellness, life skills, career and/or college readiness, and physical and mental wellness. The Workplace Mentoring Program is a career exploration program for middle schoolers where students are transported by bus to a local business site to engage in developed curriculum activities.
This position is 40 hours per week, which will include frequent evening and occasional weekend hours as determined by the needs of the agency.

Essential Job Functions
70% - Future Pathways Program
• Deliver a curriculum through facilitation and coordination that provides developmental support for young adults in the areas of financial wellness, life skills, career and/or college readiness, and physical and mental wellness, which includes partnering with other organizations
• Create individualized success and retention plans, including wrap around services, to help young adults achieve their goals
• Recruit Fellows and Coaches to participate in the program
• Develop curriculum for years 3-5 of the program
• Maintain positive on-going relationships for the young adults we serve, along with their families and volunteer mentors, by interacting consistently with them to foster an environment of empowerment and support
• Identify and cultivate working relationships with community partners in education, business, manufacturing, healthcare, insurance, banking, etc. to recruit coaches, develop career opportunities and activities, and establish potential employment options for youth
• Serve as primary contact and liaison to the Advisory Council by leading regular meetings and providing ongoing communication
• Ensure accountability and effectiveness for the Future Pathways program performance by developing impact and tracking measures to maintain program success
30% - Workplace Mentoring Program
• Coordinate and facilitate up to 3 program sessions weekly during program year
• Interview volunteers and youth to determine eligibility for the program and complete written assessments to help determine a successful match
• Support recruitment efforts including, but not limited to, participating in volunteer events, presenting to area businesses, and developing/maintaining relationships with school administrators, teachers, counselors, and workplace sites
• Provide ongoing communication and support to all match parties to ensure adherence to program guidelines, child safety, and to offer appropriate coaching
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor in support of the organization’s mission
Education
• Must hold a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in social work, social services, education, human services or related field
Other Formal Training
Experience
• 3+ years of experience working with high school and post-high school age students extremely helpful
• Knowledge in accessing resources and development tools needed for preparing young adults for successful futures needed
• Experience with youth and relationship development as well as volunteer management preferred
• Pass background checks according to organization’s standards
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to travel locally
• Display a sense of cultural competence and has experience practicing inclusivity amongst a variety of populations
• Work a flexible schedule according to agency needs, which will include frequent evening and weekend hours
