What I love most about Newtown is the remarkable resiliency in the community. No matter the challenge, people here pull together and find a way forward, always with a sense of pride and purpose. It’s this spirit of togetherness that makes Greater Des Moines such a special place to call home.
For Kim, one of the best things about living in DSM is the many options for food and drink. Nestled in Newton’s historic Maytag Headquarters building, Murph and Mary’s is a laid back yet vibrant destination for artisan pies, traditional pub food and craft brews. Another favorite is Gezellig Brewing Co., a microbrewery and taproom where every brew feels like a liquid hug.
Just steps away is another gem: Legacy Plaza. With a large green space perfect for soaking up the sun and plans for a boutique hotel and historic apartments, it’s quickly becoming a community hub.
Another favorite of Kim’s is the Newton YMCA is another one of Kim’s favorites. It offers a variety of group fitness classes that are included with a membership. For those who prefer to work out on their own, the facility also offers cardio equipment, free weights and Cybex machines.
